Does collaboration outside academia lead to greater scientific impact?

Drawing on survey data from Spanish scientists, the authors find that engaging in joint research projects with organisations outside of academia, such as firms, publci bodies, and NGOs, is associated with higher citation impact. This effect is particularly pronounced for researchers with established academic reputations. The post emphasises that the depth and nature of these collaborations - especially those fostering bi-directional knowledge exchange - play a crucial role in enhancing the relevance and reach of scientific research.
